Libya

CARE and partners work in Libya to provide emergency aid and support health and livelihoods.

Relief efforts in Libya

CARE has been registered in Libya since 2022, supporting communities affected by conflict, displacement, climate-related crises, and gaps in essential services.

When massive floods swept parts of the country in 2023, we provided life-saving aid to thousands of people affected. The heavy rains took away lives and left a trail of devastation – 40,000 homes were destroyed. CARE and our partners provided emergency support in many ways, including the distribution of hygiene kits and other essential items.

Currently, we are continuing to deliver humanitarian aid while supporting longer-term recovery to the floods and other crises. Working closely with local partners and communities, we help increase access to basic services, improve community well-being, and help communities develop lasting stability.

CARE and partners’ work in Libya today

CARE works with local partners and communities across Libya to support recovery from crises, strengthen essential services, and improve livelihoods. We focus on:

Health

We help communities access quality primary health care services, especially in underserved and crisis-affected areas. Programs strengthen health facilities, support health workers, and improve access to essential supplies. CARE also works with communities to raise awareness on nutrition, mental health, hygiene, and overall well-being, helping improve health outcomes and living conditions.

Crisis response

CARE provides emergency aid to communities affected by conflict and disasters. This includes supporting families with immediate needs and helping restore essential services through early recovery efforts, particularly in areas impacted by recent crises.

Making the economy work

CARE has supported women and young people to strengthen their livelihoods through vocational training, small business support, and income-generating opportunities. These programs helped families rebuild their income and reduce reliance on humanitarian aid.

We work across key areas in the country, including Tripoli, Sabha, and eastern Libya. Partners are essential to our efforts – local organisations, the government, and international partners that support local planning, coordination, and community engagement to improve access to services over time.
