CARE’s intervention in Guinea dates back to the 1990s and the refugee crisis caused by two wars in neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Relief efforts in Guinea
In 2014, CARE recommended a sub-regional approach for Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Côte d’Ivoire: an operational presence and country office in Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone, and a limited presence in Guinea and Liberia with programming implemented by local partner organisations.
CARE’s primary activities are working with migrants, and vocational education in food trade, fish trade, transport, catering, spare parts trade, and poultry production/trade.
CARE’s programming in Guinea dates back to the 1990s and the refugee crisis caused by two wars in neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone. CARE worked in refugee camps under the auspices of UNHCR until 2001 and then left Guinea.
