CARE is further helping rural communities in Benin boost their income through supporting village savings and loan associations.
Relief efforts in Benin
In Benin, CARE manages long-term projects to help at-risk families improve their incomes and education. Women in Benin lack legal and political status, so CARE helps girls gain quality basic education. We also work with elected local authorities to ensure they deliver on their responsibilities. CARE runs a country-wide program to combat violence against women and girls by working with communities and local organisations to promote behaviour change. CARE also runs programs on maternal and reproductive health, access to food, nutrition, and adaptation to climate change to help communities cope with frequent flooding across the country.
Through our work with village savings and loan associations, communities are better able to plan for the future and borrow money to make small investments like buying seeds, livestock, or farming equipment that will increase their future earnings.
CARE has worked in Benin since 1999.
