That’s a wrap for Walk in Her Shoes 2016

by CARE Australia - November 22, 2016

Australia turned orange in October as more than 2,400 people took to the streets, beaches and mountains as part of CARE’s Walk in Her Shoes challenge. And fuelling their steps were more than 7,400 generous people who sponsored their friends, families and colleagues to take part.

A huge thank you to our walkers (and some runners!) who have raised more than $325,000 –  enough to provide 5,400 families in poor countries with clean water close to their homes!

This is why our participants love the Walk in Her Shoes challenge; because the money raised goes to CARE Australia’s work to help reduce the distance women and girls have to walk by providing clean water close to home. This means girls can spend more time in school, women can earn an income and together they can help their communities step out of poverty.

This year, participants were invited to personalise their challenge and they responded with weekend walks along the coast, hikes through the mountains and fundraising BBQs in backyards.

All participants put themselves in the shoes of women and girls living in poverty, and we thank you!

There’s still time to donate to this year’s challenge total – fundraising is open until 30 November at walkinhershoes.org.au.

And if you missed out on the fun, don’t worry, Walk in Her Shoes will be back next October – register your interest today.
