Sokha, a mother of three from rural Cambodia, lived in fear every day as her children suffered chronic diarrhoea and fever caused by dirty water. A lack of clean water and limited knowledge about sanitation and hygiene meant illness was inevitable.

Her worry for her children was made worse by the stress of finding money for medical care.

'When my children get sick I do not have enough money for medical treatment and have to borrow money from villagers to cure my children'

In Cambodia, 20 per cent of children under five die due to water-borne diseases.

Water sources can be unreliable and frequently contaminated. They are often located far from villages along treacherous muddy tracks and monsoonal rain washes roadside rubbish into open wells and other water supplies such as ponds where families collect water.

These deaths can be easily prevented.

Through covered wells and water tanks, combined with water filters, we can ensure people have safe access to clean water year round.

These simple, long-term, sustainable solutions will improve health and save lives.
